The houses were not big, but every bit of space was made full use of. Class distinctions and social levels have existed in Høyanger ed by the housing environment.
The hydroelectric power was discovered by engineer Einar Ramsli in 1889.
The construction period was characterized by chaos. The people and the village had to adapt to workers coming and going. In 1916 there were 120 people at work; the year after there were 1200 people at work. Industry brought people together from all over the country.
